Guys, I think I’m gonna be in a Progressive ad!

Wow. I don’t condone what Progressive did, but the number of people who seem to think they are an oddity in the insurance market really need a reality check. Progressive’s actions here are par for the course for the majority of insurance companies; and before anybody drones on about how great their Rep is: Your Rep is not your insurance company. Their influence stops at the underwriter, aka the people who actually uphold the other end of the policy. And underwriters are concerned with paying out as little as they can, to maximize their profits. Good reps can stroke the system and grease some skids during a claim, but there is a reason most Reps are not also Adjusters.

Bottom line: You can’t expect any more or less from ANY insurance company than what we saw Progressive deliver. They are all in the business of making money. Anybody who wants to leave Progressive over this debacle and jump ship, you are exercising your free market right to show your disapproval with Progressive’s practices, but let me be throw out the warning that you shouldn’t expect any different, especially from a company like Geico, which is essentially Progressive’s closest sibling in the insurance game.

Its like cell phone service really; its not really a choice, its just picking the least of the evils you have available to you.
