A vote for a third party—or the decision not to vote—is a vote that’s not helping. I understand that this has a certain ideological appeal to a lot of people. But I can’t help feeling that refusing to vote because you can’t find an ideologically perfect candidate is a bit like refusing to perform first aid because you’re worried you’ll get your hands dirty.
nobody votes for their “perfect” candidate. It’s just not possible that you and one of the maybe 50 qualified, willing individuals who seek the Presidency are going to align wholly and totally on every issue. And of those ~50, only 4% are likely to be available on the ballot in your area, and 96% you will probably have never heard of.
Just as mind boggling to me are the people who are blindly voting for Romney, either because they think President Obama is a liar, they think he should have completely fixed the economy by now, they don’t understand Obamacare and/or think it is a commie plot, or they otherwise don’t like him, period. They don’t consider or care about Romney’s policies, and will vehemently defend him, despite not being able to cite any evidence to support their claims. And the evidence cited against Romney is usually chalked up to the “liberal media bias” or some other fictional nonsense. They simply want Obama gone, and damn the consequences.
This. A lot.
*facepalm*

I wish voting for a third party candidate weren’t just as helpful as not voting at all.
