Link Justice Department Probing Cable Companies Over Online Video Tactics

Let’s hope this is the start of a real inquiry into the regional monopolies that the cable companies have enjoyed for far too long.

I can’t believe it has taken this long. I thought that the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and Apple would have been applying more pressure for action before now.

Unskippable bullshit

John Gruber:

So to encourage people not to engage in piracy, they’re going to force everyone to watch yet another annoying, time-wasting, gratification-delaying warning screen that can only be avoided by engaging in piracy. They’re purposefully making the movie-playing experience worse for honest paying customers.

Here’s the thing the industry doesn’t seem to get about piracy: Being “free” is among the least of its advantages over the current media offerings. Not having to put up with dumbass warnings, previews, hideous menu systems, etc., are all advantages that trump even the low low price of $Free.

Anybody want to take bets on which will die first: traditional media distribution or cable tv?

Link HBO Continues to Miss the Boat...

Reading this, it doesn’t sound like we’re going to see HBO distance itself from the cable companies anytime soon. I’m not the only one who dared to hope as much.

Link Suicide by stupid: The Oatmeal hammers the video industry...

Sad [and humorous] though this is, I don’t find this hyperbolic at all.

Its one more example of how the movie / television industry is killing itself.

How much longer will these retarded ass-monkies be able to run their ship into the ground before they run out of money to fuel it?

I tried to watch Game of Thrones and this is what happened.
