Link German government says Windows 8 too dangerous to use

Now the NSA is [allegedly] fucking with commerce on a global scale. So what will be the final straw that will force our esteemed branches of government to reel them in?

Count the number of interfaces you see that look like they were pulled straight from Windows 95 instead of being updated and optimized for a touch interface…

Windows 8…

Finally got my Windows 8 box up. The only thought I’ll add to the noise is this:

Metro on a phone. Metro on a gaming console. Metro on a PC. I like where this is going.

Then I have to install VMWare Tools, or visit the control panel, and I’m greeted by Old & Ugly. Why is the “polished glass” look still in vogue?

There’s a lot of polish already applied, and a few details that bug me, but overall its going to be an interesting year. I really hope developers run with the Metro concept.

Microsoft: you have all the pieces in place for your own radical shake up, and you have a potentially killer platform here. Don’t fuck this up.

Link New Logo for Windows 8

Simple, effective.

Sad though it is, the best looking one (in my opinion) is still the Windows 1.0 logo.

Also, I agree with MG, why don’t they just jump off the fucking boat and ditch the Windows name? Seriously. With all the baggage that brand brings with it, are they really money ahead by sticking with it? Microsoft is the brand they should be worried about, Windows is merely a product, and one that people don’t generally hold in close regard anyway.

This isn’t a new idea. The time to rebrand and reinvent is now; Metro is trendy enough for them to badge their new UI with it, think of what it could have done for perceptions of the OS.

What’s next? Windows 9? Great, then what? Windows X? Yeah, that might be a bit of a stretch…
